This includes the analysis and development of new materials and processes. <\/h4>\n        <div class=\"intro__text\"><\/div>\n            <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"intro-grid intro-grid--white\" dir=\"ltr\">\n    <div class=\"intro-grid__content\" dir=\"ltr\">\n        <h1 class=\"intro-grid__heading\"><\/h1>\n                            <div class=\"intro-grid__text\"><p>The New Materials and Technologies department <strong>links basic research and industrial applications<\/strong>. The focus is on the development and characterisation of new materials for hydrogen and fuel cell technology and the optimisation of measurement methods and innovative processes. We combine the advantages of <strong data-start=\"448\" data-end=\"475\">alkaline electrolysis<\/strong> with <strong data-start=\"484\" data-end=\"510\">PEM membrane technology<\/strong> to create powerful and scalable AEM electrolysers. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"583\" data-end=\"977\">Our focus is on the <strong data-start=\"609\" data-end=\"674\">synthesis and characterisation of precious metal-free catalysts<\/strong>, the <strong data-start=\"680\" data-end=\"742\">development of innovative membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs)<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"753\" data-end=\"791\">coating techniques<\/strong> such as doctor blade, slot die or spray coating. We analyse materials under real-life conditions through practical <strong data-start=\"854\" data-end=\"874\">long-term tests<\/strong> with cell areas of up to 25 cm\u00b2 and pressures of up to 8 bar. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"979\" data-end=\"1184\">We use high-resolution analytics (including \u00b5XRF mapping and layer thickness analysis) to ensure the quality of our developments, thereby
